#5

She is like a merchant’s ships, bringing her food from far away.

She plans and works very hard, doing whatever is needed to take care of her family’s needs (Me’iri). Just like a smart businessman knows the best places to buy and sell, the Eishes Chayil knows which things will be good for her family and which things may harm them (Me'am Lo'ez).

In the same way, someone who constantly studies Torah (“getting up while it is still night” - see next verse), will know how to bring Ra’ayos (proofs to his ideas) “from far away" - from one Gemara to another. Also, Hashem will bring him food as if with “merchant’s ships”, meaning even if it will have to come from far away. (Sefer Chasidim; Yerushalmi).
