KASHRUS OF THE CONTAINER

The container for washing hands can be made of anything, but it must be whole. A cup with any holes may not be used. If the container is put in water and none of the water seeps into it, then it is allowed to be used, even if water drips out from it after it is filled up.

Some say that a crack is worse than a hole, and that a cracked container may never be used. This is because a crack usually spreads. A container with a spout can only be used if he pours the water with the spout and not from the sides.
